Curriculum

The recipes, not just the ingredients

Equipment without programming is a storage problem. Every RecessPod ships with access to an online curriculum that turns the contents of the pod into outcomes: how to set up and run each of the 90+ games, how to adapt them across ages and abilities, and how to sequence a three-hour event so energy builds instead of fizzling.

Play-inspired social-emotional learning

For schools, the curriculum connects games to SEL goals. Play develops the skills classrooms struggle to teach directly: negotiating group dynamics, collaborating, compromising, and sharing feelings in a safe environment. Studies show people who learn to use play as a coping mechanism are less likely to engage in negative behaviors triggered by stress and trauma. The curriculum makes those connections explicit for educators — game by game.

Placemaking and data

The community edition covers what seven years of pop-up events taught us about creative placemaking — how to make a parking lot feel like a park — plus the survey and data-collection practices that let organizers connect attendees to resources and prove impact to funders.

Always current

School subscriptions get monthly curriculum updates matched to each equipment refresh; new games and seasonal rotations arrive throughout the contract. Preview what fits your context: Schools or Communities.
